Democrats Take Immigration Issues Seriously

In Jackasses, left wing lunacy on September 24, 2010 at 8:17 pm

A subcommittee meeting was held this morning in a hearing room of the House Judiciary Committee.  Four ‘experts’ on immigration issues were invited to testify at the hearing.  One of these ‘experts’ was comedian Stephen Colbert.  He had been invited by committee chair Zoe Lofgren (D-Ca), presumably because television and movie celebrities are what passes for ‘experts’  in the ‘twilight zone’ that is California.  In her opening statement as chairwoman of the immigration subcommittee, Lofgren thanked Colbert for using his celebrity position to highlight the plight of immigrant farm workers in the US.

Colbert, testifying in character as a political pundit, opened his remarks by saying, “This is America! I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican! I want it picked by an American, then sliced by Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian.”

Because Colbert had spent a day working on a farm picking and packing corn, which apparently was the sum total of his expertise on the multifaceted subject of immigration, there was some question regarding the actual work that he performed on that occasion.

When it was (Rep. Steve) King’s turn to question the witness, he said he had watched a YouTube video that purported to show Colbert packing corn while working on a farm for a day. “When I watched, you unpacked corn,” the congressman alleged. “You don’t do that out there on the cornfield.”

“Were you implying that I was not actually doing the work I was depicted as doing?” the comedian replied.

“I thought it was curious,” King repeated, “that on the farm where you harvest the corn I was watching you actually unload a crate rather than load a crate.”

Rep. Charlie Gonzalez (D-Texas) yielded time to Colbert to respond to the allegation. “Mr. Colbert, which direction was the corn going in?”

Colbert appeared to get serious. “I was packing corn. I was a cornpacker,” he insisted. “I know that term is offensive to some people because cornpacker is a derogatory term for a gay Iowan.”

In all, the testimony of a pseudo political pundit, invited by pseudo Americans, to testify in the ‘dog and pony show’ that is this Democrat led Congress, was a complete and total embarrassment.
