Will Obama Achieve Peace in the Middle East?

In Israel, Middle East, Palestinians on September 5, 2010 at 8:55 pm

On the eve of peace talks in Washington, a Palestinian gunman fired on an Israeli car in the West Bank killing four Israelis, two men and two women. Later, a rally was held in Gaza to celebrate the deadly attack, it  drew 3,000 participants.

“At the gathering, Hamas military wing spokesman Abu Obeida told The Associated Press: ‘The Qassam Brigades announces its full responsibility for the heroic operation in Hebron.’ ” Read the full story.

Every American President since Jimmy Carter has been expected to engage in the farcical accords between the Palestinians Peoples and Israeli government in the hopes of establishing a basis for a lasting middle east peace. It has always been an exercise in futility. Even Yitzhak Rabin, the Israeli Prime Minister who in 1993 was prepared to sacrifice the future security of his own people in the effort toward peace, may have known on some unconscious level how futile his efforts really were. The Palestinians on the other hand are well aware of it. For them, the object of the exercise is nothing more than a public relations stunt.

The notion of a Palestinian people, displaced from lands in which they have lived for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, by a Jewish state, is nothing more than BS. To say that it is mere myth is much to kind, the fact is that which we now refer to as ‘the Palestinian People’ are a malicious contrivance, invented for the sole purpose of expelling the Jews from the middle east. The Palestinians have so much as admitted it.

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.

“For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa. While as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.” (PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein, March 31, 1977, interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw.)

Regardless of whatever concessions Israel may make to the Palestinians, it will not be enough. The Palestinians do not want peace, they want the state of Israel to cease to exist. Hence, the deadly attacks on the eve of peace talks. The very charters of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) refuse to recognize Israel’s right to exist in Palestine.

While the Palestinians remain unwaveringly bent on the destruction of the Israeli state, negotiations are nothing but folly. It would be easier to turn a full-grown wild crocodile into a loyal pet, than to turn the Palestinians into good neighbors with Israel. Obama’s efforts at middle east peace are doomed to failure before they begin, and through no fault of his own.

Can there ever be peace between Israel and the so-called Palestinians? Yes, it is possible, in the same way that peace has ever been achieved under such circumstances, through ‘aggressive negotiations’. When every Palestinian who has a will to fight is dead, then there will be peace.
